I often work in a spontaneous manner without a set plan. In this piece I decided to use all black and white fabrics, threads and beads for the strong graphic statement they make and also their simplicity. I returned to two of my favorite blocks; the unstructured log cabin and bargello.
Inspired by a vintage piece of comic strip fabric I created this quilt for a group challenge and an exhibition. I included a few other jokes in the quilt that are funny in a slapstick way. The punch lines of the jokes are slightly hard to find so the viewer can guess the answer before finding it on the quilt.
Finding humor in anything is different for everyone and it’s interesting to see that some jokes always get a laugh. I attempted to make a fun quilt with “ a sense of humor” that makes people smile.
